Western Cape provincial parliament rendered inaccessible during cyber attack

The Western Cape provincial parliament (WCPP) experienced an overnight cybersecurity breach, resulting in the inaccessibility of its information and communication technology (ICT) services. The incident has been reported to the police and the state security agency.

The WCPP, recognizing the severity of cybersecurity threats, had previously invested in robust cybersecurity measures, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans. These plans have now been activated, and the institution is working on recovering its systems from backups in a secure environment. The restoration of services will be carried out systematically, and a phased approach will be taken.

Despite the breach, the sittings of the house scheduled for Thursday are expected to proceed as planned.
